Fordham's Clifton Hilario and Brigid Moriarty Named 2009 Academic All-Atlantic 10 for Cross Country

Nov. 17, 2009

Bronx, N.Y. - Fordham University graduate students Clifton Hilario (Circleville, N.Y./Pine Bush) and Brigid Moriarty (Manchester Center, Vt./Burr and Burton Seminary) were recognized for their athletic and academic accomplishments by being named to the 2009 Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference Team for men's and women's cross country, respectively, in a vote by the conference's Sports Information Directors.

To be nominated for Academic All-Conference honors, a player must be a starter or important reserve and have a cumulative 3.0 gpa or better (on a 4.0 scale) for his/her entire academic career.

Hilario, who graduated with a degree in Accounting in 2009 and is currently pursuing a master's degree in the Graduate School of Business Administration, earns the honor for the second consecutive season. Last year, Hilario was named Academic All-Atlantic 10 for cross country, indoor track and out track, becoming the second Ram to accomplish the feat. This fall, he placed 36th overall at the 2009 Atlantic 10 Cross Country championships, the first Fordham finisher. Hilario finished in the top ten in every race prior to the Atlantic 10 Championships, winning the 2009 St. John's Fall Festival while taking third at the Leeber Invitational. The 2009 team captain recorded the second fastest Fordham XC time this year (25:34).

Last year, his first as a member of the cross country squad, Hilario was Fordham's second finisher at the 2008 Atlantic 10 Cross Country Championship, placing 44th overall in a time of 25:31.6, the Rams' second fastest 8K cross country time of the season. He also placed eighth at both the Fairfield and Leeber Invitationals while taking tenth in the Metropolitan Championships. He was named men's cross country team MVP.

Brigid Moriarty

Moriarty, who graduated with a degree in English last May and is currently working on a master's degree in English, placed sixth at the 2009 Atlantic 10 Cross Country championships to earn All-Conference honors, only the second Fordham female cross country runner ever to do so. She serves as the 2009 team captain and was the top Fordham finisher in six of the seven cross country races this year. Moriarty turned in the fastest women's cross country time at Fordham this fall (18:41).

Last year, Moriarty was named the women's cross country team MVP. She has been a member of the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll all four years as undergraduate.
