Box Score

Kingston, R.I. - Heading into their season finale at Rhode Island, the Fordham volleyball team could only think of what may have been, as the team was just 2-7 in five-set matches and have had major injuries hit the squad. The Rams had one more shot against the Rhode Island Rams, but fell victim to that five-set marker again as well as another injury in Kingston, R.I. Final set scores were 25-17, 19-25, 25-22, 18-25, and 15-5.

With the loss, Fordham finishes the season at 13-20 overall, 3-12 in the Atlantic 10, while Rhode Island ended their season at 11-17 overall, 4-11 in league play.

In set one, Rhode Island's attack was efficient at .289, connecting for 15 kills to just four errors, as they went onto an eight-point win.

Set two saw the roles reverse as Fordham's attack was solid with a .314 attack percentage. The Rams' outside hitters, Sara Friede and Kailee May, were strong with six and four kills respectively, as Fordham went on to a six-point win.

Fordham looked to continue that momentum in set three, as the Rams led 14-10, following a kill by Jolanda Gunning-Snowden. Rhode Island however scored the next six points to re-establish their play, leading 16-14. Fordham later tied the score at 18, and regained the lead on a kill by Friede. Rhode Island responded with another run, this time with four straight points, taking a 22-19 edge, which they would hold on to for a 25-22 win.

Determined to not go away, Fordham used a 13-2 run in the middle of the fourth set to take a 22-11 lead. Rhode Island tried to get back in the set with five straight points, but was not enough, as Fordham forced a deciding set with a 25-18 set win.

Fordham's luck however changed dramatically in the fifth set, as Rhode Island scored eight of the first nine points to take a commanding lead. Fordham also lost Friede to an injury leaving the Rams without one of their top hitters for the remainder of the fifth set. The deficit plus the injury was too much for Fordham to overcome, falling by a 15-5 score.
