Volleyball Swept by Duquesne

Pittsburgh, Pa. - The Duquesne Dukes hit close to .300 as a team, while totaling 11 team blocks, as they topped the Fordham volleyball team in three sets at the Palumbo Center in Pittsburgh, Pa. Final set scores were 25-22, 25-22, and 25-19.

With the loss, Fordham falls to 13-19 overall, 3-11 in the Atlantic 10, while Duquesne improves to 15-14 overall, 5-9 in the league.

Set one saw the score tied at 16 before a 5-1 run by Duquesne pushed them out to a 21-17 lead. Fordham closed back within two twice on a block by Christi Griffiths and Katie Wells and a kill by Kailee May, but Nicole Wright closed out the set in favor of the Dukes with a kill.

Much like set one, set two was just as close with the score tied at 19. Duquesne however would score six of the final nine points to win the set by three.

Duquesne took control of set three with a 6-2 run to go ahead of Fordham, 16-12, and would not look back.

For Fordham, Griffiths and Wells led the way with 11 kills each, while Katherine Burrell had 28 assists and eight digs. Sara Friede posted nine kills and four digs with May adding eight kills and nine digs.

The Fordham volleyball team will wrap up their 2009 season on Sunday, November 15th, as they play at Rhode Island, beginning at 3:00 PM.
