Bronx, N.Y. - The Fordham University men's tennis squad ventured up to Latham, N.Y., on Sunday to face the Siena College Saints with the Rams taking home a 4-3 win on the strength of four singles victories, three of those going to tiebreakers.

The Rams were victorious at the third through sixth singles position with Kevin Maloney, Alex DeRienzo and John Thornhill all needing three sets to pull out the win. Maloney won the first set at third singles from Siena's Jarrett Siwiec, 6-4, before falling, 6-2, in the second. But Maloney rebounded to take the third set, 10-6, to win the third set tiebreaker, 10-6.

In fifth singles, DeRienzo won the first set, 6-1, before Siena's Jay Godbole won the second, 6-4. DeRiezno then pulled out a 10-8 win in the tiebreaker to win the match.

Thornhill also needed a tiebreaker at sixth singles, winning the first set from Nik Godbole, 6-4, before dropping the second, 6-4. Thornhill then took the tiebreaker, 10-4.

The other singles winner for Fordham was Austin Shoup, who took fourth singles from Kevin Gioia in straight sets, 6-0 and 6-4.

The Rams opened the match by dropping the doubles point, losing two of the three doubles matches. Brandon Abbatiello and DeRienzo won at third doubles for Fordham, defeating Jay Godbole and Nik Godbole, 8-6.

The Fordham men's tennis team will next be in action on Tuesday, October 6th as they travel to Lawrenceville, N.J., to take on Rider College at 3:00 p.m.
