The Fordham golf team played 36 holes on Sunday, as they finished up play at Yale's MacDonald Cup in New Haven, Connecticut. Fordham finished for 14th out of 15 teams, as they were a shot behind Yale "B" for 13th and six behind Temple for 12th.
Yale won the tournament at two-over-par, shooting a team score of 842, followed by Iowa State in second at 845 and St. Edward's University in third at 851. Fordham finished with a team score of 892 (+52).
Individually, Fordham's Jason Del Rosso had another top 20 performance, as he tied for 17th with a three-round score of 215 (70-74-71). The score was the best three-round total for a Ram since joining the Atlantic 10 conference in 1995, breaking Brian McClure's 2006 mark, set at the Atlantic 10 Championship.
Not to be outdone, Devon O'Rourke tied for 24th overall with a three-round total of 216 (75-71-70), which tied McClure for the second-best three-round mark by a Ram.
Besides Del Rosso and O'Rourke, Charles Smith placed in a tie for 59th at 229 (77-77-75), while Brody Nieporte was 67th at 233 (77-75-81). David Newman rounded out the Fordham competitors with a score of 236 (79-76-81), tying for 69th.
The Fordham golf team will next be in action on Friday, October 9th, as they open play at the 2009 ECAC Golf Championship at Blue Heron Pines Golf Club in Egg Harbor, N.J.
