Softball Finishes Fall Season With Two More Wins

Bronx, N.Y. - Behind the hot hitting of Jocelyn Dearborn and Beckah Wiggins, as well as dominant pitching performances by Jen Mineau, the Fordham softball team ended their fall season undefeated, topping St. John's, 7-2, and rallying for a come from behind 7-5 win over Sacred Heart.

The Rams finish the fall at a perfect 8-0.

In the opening game, Jen Mineau struck out 11 of the first 12 batters, while Jocelyn Dearborn and Beckah Wiggins each hit three-run home runs, as the Rams topped St. John's, 7-2.

Fordham opened the scoring in the first, as Dearborn ripped a shot over the centerfielder's head for a triple, followed by a double by Samantha Pellechio, making it a 1-0 game.

In the third, Lindsey Kay Bright and Meghan Shager both singled, with Dearborn following with a three-run home run to left, making it 4-0 in favor of the Rams.

Fordham extended the lead to 7-0 in the fifth, as Wiggins hit a three-run home run to left, scoring Pellechio and Erin Fisher.

St. John's notched a pair of unearned runs in the top of the sixth off reliever Jamie LaBovick to account for the 7-2 final.

Jen Mineau threw the five no-hit innings with 12 strikeouts, while LaBovick pitched the final two innings. Dearborn was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, a triple, a home run, and three RBI, while Wiggins was 1-for-3 with a three-run home run.

In game two, Fordham rallied from a 5-2 deficit to top the Sacred Heart Pioneers by a final score, 7-5.

Fordham opened the scoring with two runs in the first, as Pellechio connected for a two-out single, while Fisher drew a walk. Wiggins then ripped a two-run double to center, scoring both runners.

Sacred Heart responded with a five-run third inning, collecting four hits in the inning. Taylor Froelich highlighted the inning with a two-run double, while Jasmine Vicente had an RBI-single.

The Rams then chipped away at the Pioneers' lead with single runs in the third and fourth inning. In the third, Dearborn hit her second triple of the day, and then scored on a ground out by Pellechio. In the fourth, Wiggins connected for a solo home run to right center, her second of the day, to make it a 5-4 game.

Fordham tied the game in the sixth, as Jessica Richards led off with a double down the left field line, moved to third on a ground out, and scored on a single by Shager.

Bright then laid down a perfect bunt single, which Shager went all the way to third on. Dearborn then looped a shot to right, which the rightfielder dove for and could not come up with, allowing Bright and Shager to score, with Dearborn credited with her third triple of the day.

Mineau, who came in relief of Chelsea Plimpton, shut the door on the Pioneers, allowing just one hit with five strikeouts in four innings of relief. At the plate, Dearborn was 2-for-4 with two triples and two RBI, while Wiggins was 2-for-3 with a double, a home run, and three RBI. Richards also with 2-for-3 with a double and a stolen base.
