Water Polo Plays It Close at Claremont Tournament

Claremont, Calif. - Wrapping up play at the Claremont Convergence Tournament, the Fordham water polo put forth strong play and effort in their final two matches, but unfortunately came out on the wrong end in matches against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Whittier.

In their opening match on Saturday, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Fordham were tied at 13 all in the final minute of regulation, but CMS scored twice in the final 34 seconds to take a 15-13 decision.

It was an offensive second half with 20 goals scored after it was 4-4 at halftime.

For Fordham, Mikey Edwards led the attack with four goals, while Scott Nemecek added three. Ryan Hultman had a pair of goals, with Andrew McKernin, Daniel Muñoz, Jakob Muller and Ali Arat each having one goal. Christian Flessner made four saves in net.

In game two, the Rams dropped another close match, this time to Whittier by a 9-6 score.

Edwards added two more goals to his ledger with Arat also netting a pair of tallies. Hultman and Martin de Jong also scored for Fordham. Flessner managed three saves in goal.

Fordham, now 8-12 on the season, returns back home to continue conference play, as they host Queens College on October 14th at 7:30 PM.
