Fordham sophomore Courtney Collyer (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph by the Sea) was named Atlantic 10 Women's Swimming Performer of the Week for the week ending October 25th it was announced by the league office today. It is the second weekly award for Collyer in her career as she won Rookie of the Week honors once last winter.
Collyer, the 2009 Atlantic 10 Women's Swimming Rookie of the Year, won six events in three meets on the week, winning a pair of races in each of the events while showcasing her versatility. She started her week winning both the 200 individual medley (2:08.88) and the 200 butterfly races (2:06.67) at Marist on Thursday night, leading the Rams to a 160-83 win over the Red Foxes.
Collyer then took first in the 200 fly (2:03.6) and the 400 IM (4:32.47) at the Fairfield-Saint Peter's tri-meet at home in the Francis B. Messmore Aquatics Center on Friday night. She helped the women to wins over both school as Fordham defeated Fairfield, 165-72, and Saint Peter's, 170-57. Collyer wrapped up her weekend by winning the 200 free (1:55.44) and 500 free (5:10.94) at the Husky Invitational on Saturday as the Rams placed second of five teams.
The Rams will next be inaction on Wednesday, November 11th, as they host Stony Brook in the Col. Francis B. Messmore Aquatics Center at 5:00 PM.
