Bronx, N.Y. - This fall, thousands of volleyball teams from around the country, will be participating in the DiG PiNK National Breast Cancer Awareness Rally, promoting breast health education in the community as well as raising funds to help eradicate breast cancer. Fordham volleyball will hold two events this week as a part of the campaign.

The Fordham volleyball team will be in a "pink" state of mind, as they hold fundraising efforts for the Side-Out Foundation on Thursday and Saturday this week.

On Thursday, the volleyball team will hold the "Bust it up for the Cure" volleyball tournament for students in the Lombardi Center Fieldhouse, beginning at 6:30 PM until 10:00 PM.

Teams can consist of 6 to 12 players with the entry fee at $5 per person. Prizes for performance and giveaways for best team uniform and other contests will be held.

Registration for the event can be done at the volleyball office in the Rose Hill Gym as well as at the RHA Office of any dorm.

For more information, please contact either Tara Peterson (tpeterson@fordham.edu) or assistant coach Patrice Arrington (parrington1@fordham.edu).

Then on Saturday, in conjunction with the Rams' 2:00 PM match against Rhode Island, Fordham will have their "DiG PiNK" day. The Rams will be taking donations as well as selling T-shirts for $10 in support of the Side-Out Foundation.

The Side-Out Foundation, a national 501 (c)(3) located in the Washington DC Metropolitan Area, has raised thousands of dollars for breast cancer research nationally through volleyball tournaments, clinics, and rallies. Funds are currently devoted to targeted therapies and molecular profiling, which is where there is a hot bed of research activity.

The foundation name underscores the purpose of the organization - "Side-Out" in volleyball occurs when one team wins a point, while its opponent is serving, there by regaining serve or control of play. Likewise in the fight against breast cancer, the Side-Out Foundation will support health care professionals in their pursuit of practical solutions for women and men with this dreaded disease, thus enabling those affected to regain control of their lives and live them to the fullest.
