In their first action of the day in California, the Fordham University water polo squad defeated La Verne, 10-4, on Thursday before a late comeback fell short in a loss to 20th-ranked Cal Baptist, 12-11, on Friday and the day ended with a 14-9 loss to Pomona Pitzer.
In the Thursday game, Ali Arat led the Rams with three goals while Mikey Edwards added two to lead the Rams. Daniel Muñoz, Martin de Jong, Andrew Dentinger, Scott Nemecek and Victor Bautista Medina each added a goal for Fordham while Christian Flessner made seven saves in goal.
In the first game on Friday, Fordham started Claremont Convergence Tournament by falling behind Cal Baptist 7-2 after the first period and 9-5 at the half. But the Rams mounted a ferocious second half comeback, falling just short, 12-11. Edwards tallied four scores for the Rams while Arat added three. Jakob Muller, Mark Connor and Nemecek each also scored for Fordham while Flessner recorded six save.
Less than 30 minutes later, the Rams played their third game in less than 24 hours, falling to Pomona Pitzer, 14-9. Ryan Hultman and Edwards each found the back of the net three times for Fordham while Arat added two goals and Nemecek one. Flessner registered five saves in net.
With the 1-2 day, the Rams go to 8-10 on the season. They'll next be in action on Saturday as they continue play in the Claremont Convergence Tournament, facing Claremont-Mudd-Scripts at noon and Whittier at 5:20 PM.
