Head of the Housatonic Results
Shelton, Conn. - The Fordham women's rowing team opened up their 2009-10 fall season on Saturday at the Head of the Housatonic Regatta in Shelton, Connecticut. In all, Fordham had four boats compete three races.
The most successful boat on the day for Fordham was the Novice 8, which won by a huge margin, covering the course in a time of 20:36.485, over 1:30 ahead of the next boat, Atlantic 10 rivals, UMass. Behind UMass were Hofstra, Fairfield, Stony Brook and Coast Guard. The Fordham Novice 8 was comprised of Elizabeth Anderson, Mary Ellen Shoup, Elizabeth Ayan, Alyssa Cantarella, Cara McGonigle, Colleen McGinnis, Jessica Cacace and Julia LaFauci with Meghan Patenaude as coxswain.
The day started as the Rams competed in the Varsity 4 and Novice 4 races. The Fordham Varsity 4 took fifth place overall, of 14 boats, in a time of 18:40.77, behind crews from Yale and Williams, along with one form the NYAC, but five seconds ahead of Atlantic 10 rivals, UMass. The Fordham Varsity 4 was comprised of Stephanie Narduzzo, Alyssa Sunofsky, Nadia Abdul ghani and Francesca Andrea with Christina Costa at coxswain.
The second Fordham Varsity 4 shell of Ravelle Mohammed, Katherine Hall, Jean Beagle and Joanna Bak with Abigail Paparo at cox, placed 13th overall in 21:03.65.
The Novice 4, a boat which entered the regatta without having any practice, placed second in their race in a time of 20:17.643, just a half-second behind the winners, UMass, but ahead of crews from Yale, Coast Guard, Iona and Sacred Heart. The Novice 4 was made up of Mary Ellen Shoup, Elizabeth Anderson, Ursula Leone and Elizabeth Ayan with Jackie Hinke at coxswain.
The final race for Fordham was the Varsity Women's 8, where the Rams placed ninth overall of 14 teams in 18:02.16. Fordham was less than three seconds behind UMass "B" but ahead of UMass "C", UConn "B" and Sacred Heart. The boat was comprised of Alyssa Sunofsky, Stephanie Narduzzo, Francesca Andrea, Nadia Abdul ghani, Catherine Helmer, Chelsea Berry, Kayla Gaskey and Lis Knips with Christina Costa at coxswain.
The Rams will next be in action on Saturday and Sunday, October 17th and 18th, as they compete in the Head of the Charles in Boston.
