The Fordham track & field teams continued their 2008-09 season on Friday as they competed at the NYU Gotham Cup, held at the 168th St. Armory in New York. There were no team scores kept, but Fordham had two event winners and one IC4A qualifying time.
The highlight of the evening came in the men's distance medley relay, as Fordham qualified for the IC4A Championship, placing second in a time of 10:17.99.
Senior Matt DiBuono was one of the two event winners, taking the weight throw with a mark of 60' 4 ½". He also finished fifth in the shot put with a season-best toss of 47' 7 ¾". Senior Tom Papain also registered a win in the unseeded 5000 meter run in a time of 15:40.70.
Besides DiBuono and Papain, the Rams also had five second place finishes, which included the men's distance medley relay. Tim Hartnett was second in the unseeded 5000 meter run in 15:41.69, while Brian Horowitz was runner-up in the unseeded 800 meters in 1:59.26. Brigid Moriarty was second in the women's 5000 meter run in 17:35.28 with the men's 4x800 relay placing second in a season-best time of 7:55.35.
In addition to these performances, Fordham got three other season-best performances on the day. Tom Finnerty ran a season-best time of 2:30.61 in the men's 1000 meters, placing eighth overall, while Kerri Gallagher ran an Atlantic 10-best time of 2:58.19 in the women's 1000 meters. The women's 4x400 relay also ran a season-best time of 4:03.12, which was eighth overall.
Other notable performances were put in by Jeana Fletcher in the shot put (7th - 38' 4"), Brian Schmidt in the 500 meters (6th - 1:05.46), and Ryan Campi in the unseeded mile run (4th - 4:26.99).
The Fordham track and field teams will next be in action on January 30th-31st, as they compete at the Terrier Classic in Boston, Massachusetts.
