Fordham - Rhode Island Football Game Postponed

Bronx, N.Y. - The Fordham - Rhode Island football game schedule for Saturday night at 6:00 p.m. has been postponed by the game officials as Jack Coffey Field was experiencing the effects of Tropical Storm Hanna. The game will now be played on Sunday afternoon starting at noon.

The Fordham - Lehigh men's soccer match which was schedule for 1:00 PM on Sunday on Jack Coffey Field will now be played at 5:00 PM.

The Fordham University football Rams will now open their 2008 season when they host the University of Rhode Island on Jack Coffey Field on Sunday, September 7th, at 12:00 pm.

The game will be broadcast live on WFUV (90.7 FM) as well as on the internet at wfuv.org.

The 2008 season marks Fordham's 110th season of varsity football and the Rams are one of 16 NCAA Division I teams to compiled more than 700 wins in their history.

Fordham closed out the 2007 season with an 8-4 overall record, 5-1 in the Patriot League, as the Rams won their second Patriot League crown and advanced to the NCAA FCS playoffs for the second time in school history. Rhode Island, who went 3-8 last fall, opened its season last Saturday with a 27-24 win over Monmouth in Kingston.

Fordham will be led into the game by junior quarterback John Skelton, a 2007 Second Team All-Patriot League pick, who completed 216 of 383 passes for 2,650 yards and 22 touchdowns. His 22 touchdown passes tied for the third most in Fordham history while his 216 completions is fourth best and his 2,650 passing yards is the fifth best single season total in school history. He will be joined in the backfield by sophomore running back Xavier Martin, the 2007 Patriot League Rookie of the Year, who rushed for 635 yards on 127 carries with a team-high eight touchdowns.

Defensively, Fordham will be led by four captains, seniors Fonzie Culver, Greg DeMarco and Matt Loucks and junior James Crockett, who received Second Team All-Patriot League honors, closing out the season with 70 total tackles, third best on the team, including 43 solo.

This will be the eighth meeting between Fordham and Rhode Island on the gridiron, with Fordham leading the all-time series, 4-3, thanks to a 27-23 win at Rhode Island last year.
