Fordham University sophomore Kerri Gallagher (Belle Harbor, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) and freshman Brian Riley (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) were honored by the Atlantic 10 today, earning Women's Cross Country Performer of the Week and Men's Cross Country Co-Rookie of the Week honors, respectively. It is the first weekly award for each.
The Fordham cross country squads competed in the 32nd Annual Victor F. Leeber, S.J. Invitational in Fairfield, Conn., on Saturday where the men's team placed second and the women third in the eleven-team competition.
Gallagher paced the women's squad, taking fourth overall of 123 runners, covering the 5K course in a time of 19:28.57.
Riley was the second Fordham finisher for the men, running the 8K course in a time of 25:57, placing ninth overall of 150 runners. His time tied the season-best for a Ram this fall.
The Fordham men's and women's cross country teams will next be in action on Friday, October 10th, as they compete at the Metropolitan Championships at Van Cortland Park beginning at 2:00 p.m.
