Fordham's Ryan Meara and Aaron Markowitz Earn Weekly Men's Soccer Honors

Sept. 22, 2008

Bronx, N.Y. - Fordham freshman goalkeeper Ryan Meara (Yonkers, N.Y./Fordham Prep) and freshman forward Aaron Markowitz (Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y./Hastings) earned weekly men's soccer accolades on Monday. Meara was named Atlantic 10 Co-Rookie of the Week, while Markowitz earned a spot on College Soccer News' National Team of the Week.

Meara and Markowitz were crucial to both of Fordham's victories this past week against Manhattan and Marist.

On Wednesday against Manhattan, Meara made four saves in net, while Markowitz scored the game-winning goal in the 76th minute, as Fordham won the Battle of the Bronx, 1-0, on Jack Coffey Field.

On Saturday at Marist, Meara again had four saves in net as the Rams shut out the Red Foxes, 3-0. Markowitz scored the first of three Fordham goals, recording his second straight game-winner.

With the two shutouts, Meara lowered his goals against average to 1.06 on the year, and improved his record to 3-3-1 on the season. Markowitz currently leads Fordham with three goals and two assists for eight points.

The Fordham men's soccer team will next be in action on Saturday, September 27th, as they play at Hartwick, beginning at 7:00 PM.
