Bronx, N.Y. - The Fordham University men's tennis team opened their 2008 fall season with a 6-1 loss to Saint Peter's College on the Hawthorn/Rooney Courts. Dallas Harting picked up the point for the Rams, defeating Saint Peters' Peter Czajka at second singles.
The match opened with the Peacocks taking the doubles point, winning all three doubles matches. Chris Frakes and Tony Wilkey won at first doubles over Fordham's Ken Fukumoto and Nick Kelly, 9-7, while Jay Gramatica and Czajka were victorious at second doubles, defeating Fordham's Sotiris Georgiou and Peter Slucky, 8-4. Lukas Posipil and Kevin Noranjo completed the sweep at doubles for Saint Peter's, taking Andriy Kulak and Vincent Lai at third doubles, 8-6.
Harting took the first set from Czajka, 6-4, before dropping the second set, 6-3. But Harting came back to game the match with a 10-8 win in the third set.
In other singles matches, Shoup fell at first singles to Wilkey (7-5 and 6-4) while Brandon Abbatiello dropped third singles to Gramatica (7-6 and 6-1) and Pat Tool was upended at fourth singles by Frakes (7-5, 7-5). Kevin Maloney fell to Posipil at fifth singles and Eli Plangger lost at sixth singles to Noranjo.
The Rams will next be in action on Wednesday, September 24th, as they travel to Concordia College for a 7:00 p.m. match.
