Fordham Cross Country & Track Alumni in the News

Sept. 17, 2008

Bronx, N.Y. - On Saturday, September 13th, nine Fordham alumni from the cross country/track & field team participated in "Run for a Cause", which was a fundraiser for Montefiore Children's Hospital.

The event was a success as over 170 runners and walkers completed the 3.1 mile course. More importantly, a $2,600 donation was made to the Children's Hospital at Montefiore Medical Center.

The race started in the Bronx at Van Cortlandt Park, ran through Woodlawn, and ended at Indian Field in Van Cortlandt Park.

Jon Scott ('02) placed first overall in race, while Greg Mason ('05) and Grace White ('03, MS '05) each placed first in the 21-30 age group. Behind White in the 21-30 age group, current Fordham assistant coach Danica Dupuy ('07) placed second.

Other Fordham alumni in the event included Fordham assistant coach Marisa Galloway ('01), Liz Miller ('04), Mark Porcaro ('04 - school record holder in the 400m), Deric Zaphire ('03 - school record holder in the 500m), and Errol Pierre ('05).

In addition to that alumni news, Fordham Athletic Hall of Famer and track alumnus Vin Forte ('80) will be inducted into the Eastchester High School Hall of Fame on October 5th. Forte competed in five varsity sports at Eastchester before arriving at Rose Hill, becoming a track star and an assistant track coach at Fordham.
