Fordham University junior quarterback John Skelton (El Paso, Tex./Burges) was named an Honorable Mention Preseason All-American by the Consensus Draft Services as well as being ranked 20 among the NCAA FCS quarterbacks by The Sports Network.
Skelton, a Second Team All-Patriot League selection last fall, led Fordham to an 8-4 overall record and a Patriot League championship last year, earning the Rams their second-ever berth in the NCAA FCS Championship. He completed 216 of 383 passes for 2,650 yards and 22 touchdowns in 2007, while also rushing for 275 net yards and six touchdowns. Skelton threw at least one touchdown pass in eleven of the 12 games last year while recording seven 200-plus yard passing games, including two 300-plus yard games.
In the NCAA FCS playoff game at Massachusetts last November, Skelton set a Patriot League playoff record with five touchdowns responsible for, throwing for three scores and rushing for two more. He finished the game completing 25 of 46 passes for 281 yards.
The 22 touchdown passes Skelton threw in 2007 tied for the third most in Fordham history, while his 216 completions was the fourth and his 2,650 passing yards the fifth best single season totals in school history. He currently ranks fifth on the Fordham career completions (290), passing yards (2,650) and passing touchdowns (28) lists and eighth on the all-time completion percentage list (.564).
The Rams will open their 2008 summer camp on Monday, August 11th when the squad reports to Rose Hill with the first acclimation day set for Tuesday, August 12th.
