The Fordham University men's golf squad closed out play at the 2008 Atlantic 10 Men's Golf Championship at the Orange County National Golf Center as the Rams placed tenth of 12 teams.
Fifth-ranked Charlotte claimed its third-straight Atlantic 10 Men's Golf Championship finishing with a 23-stroke cushion, shooting a 3-under 285 on the par 72, 6,837-yard Panther Lake course on the final day. Dayton was the Championship runner-up, its best finish since joining the league in 1996, shooting par on day three and finishing with a 54-hole total of 860. Rhode Island placed third with an 863, followed by Xavier in fourth place with an 865 and Richmond in fifth place with an 866. St. Bonaventure (869), Temple (877), Saint Joseph's (888), George Washington (889), Fordham (914), Duquesne (927) and La Salle (947) round out the field.
Dayton junior Rob Chappell earned Dayton's first-ever individual medalist honor shooting an 11-under 205 in the three-day Championship. It was the third consecutive time that a player shot a 68 on the final day of play to merit top honors.
The 49ers placed three golfers among the top 10 finishers, led by sophomore Corey Nagy who was the medalist runner-up after shooting a 10-under. Charlotte senior Jonas Enander Hedin finished third with a 207 and senior teammate Stefan Wiedergruen was tied for fifth at 5-under. Joining Chappell, Nagy, Enander Hedin and Wiedergruen on the All-Conference team were senior Jordan Utley of Richmond (4th- 208), St. Bonaventure's Brennan Payne (T5th-211), junior Mike Beausejour of Xavier (7th- 213), junior Mark Stevens of Rhode Island (T8th-214), Dayton freshman Chris Woeste (T8th-214), Xavier senior Brian Keating (T10th
Leading the Rams was Michael Finocchi who shot an even par 72 on the third day, one day after carding a one-under 71, as he finished with a three-day total of 218, good for a tie for 17th.
Nico Mizono was the second Fordham finisher, shooting an 81 on day three for a three-day total of 231 to tie for 44th. Charles Sterken was right behind Mizono, also carding an 81 on day three for a total of 233 in the tournament to tie for 46th.
Trevor Seufer shot a 75 on the last day to bring his championship total to 235 and tie for 49th while Joseph Neydon recorded a 78 in the final round for a 241 total, placing him 54th.
