The Fordham University men's and women's outdoor track and field teams wrapped up competition today at the 2008 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track & Field Championships, held at the Track & Field Complex on the campus of the University of Massachusetts. The Fordham men placed seventh of 11 teams while the women were eleventh of 12 teams.
Rhode Island seized its seventh men's crown in eight seasons as it edged runner-up Charlotte, 224-206. La Salle finished in third place with 136 points, followed by Massachusetts (62), Duquesne (56), Temple (49), Fordham (37), Saint Joseph's (31), Richmond (28), Saint Louis (15) and Xavier (1
On the women's side, Charlotte amassed 203 points while Dayton and Rhode Island tied for second with 110.5 points apiece. Temple placed fourth with 108 points, followed by Richmond (68), Massachusetts (60), La Salle (57), Saint Joseph's (48), Duquesne (33.5), Saint Louis (22.5), Fordham (21) and Xavier (16).
Leading the Fordham men on day two was freshman Brian Schmidt, who placed third in the 800m in a season-best time of 1:53.29.
Also scoring for the men were Tom Finnerty, who took sixth in the 1500m in a time of 3:57.94, and Matt DiBuono, who won the hammer throw title on Saturday, who placed eighth in the shot put with a toss of 45' 10.75". Finnerty also placed 19th in the 5000m (15:29.78).
In men's relays, the 4x400 team placed third in a season-best time of 3:16.43, improving on their IC4A qualifying time, while the 4x100 squad placed eighth (44.84).
In the decathlon, Vincent Servello placed ninth with 4,797 points while Augustus Gleason was right behind him with 4,621 points, good for tenth place.
Also competing for the men were Matt Lowenthal, who finished ninth in the 800m (1:54.07), Chris Kozlowski, who was ninth in the shot put (44' 2"), Christopher Lyons, who took 12th in the 200m (23.32) and 14th in the 400m (50.57), Brandon Ryan, who placed 12th in the 400m (50.26), Michael Kearney, who was 13th in the 400m (50.32), Fred Wertz, who was 16th in the 200m (23.88), Brian Horowitz, who was 17th in the 1500m (4:07.19), Jarrett Anistranski, who placed 17th in the 200m (24.15), Ryan Campi, who took 21st in the 1500m (4:10.37), and Ryan Serkes, who placed 23rd in the 800m (1:57.47).
Scoring for the Fordham women were Catherine Groene, who was third in the 400m hurdles in a time of 1:04.36 and fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 37' 6", while Melissa Salerno placed fourth in the 1500m in 4:40.52. Groene also placed 16th in the long jump (16' 1.75").
Also competing for the women were Kerri Gallagher, who was ninth in the 800m (2:16.66) and 21st in the 400m (1:02.40), Kathleen Reilly, who took 15th in the 1500m (4:51.37), Ondrea Gallo, who placed 15th in the 400m hurdles (1:08.66), Natazia Fistrovic, who finished 17th in the javelin (96' 1"), Bridget Carroll, who was 18th in the 1500m (4:53.03), Dana Mitchell, who placed 20th in the 400m (1:01.08) and Jessica Berry, who finished 31st in the 800m (2:35.70).
In women's relays, the 4x100 and 4x400 teams each placed tenth.
The men's and women's outdoor track and field teams will next be in action from May 16th-18th as they compete at the ECAC/IC4A Championships at Princeton University.
