Three Fordham Baseball Players Named To Atlantic 10 All-Conference Teams

May 20, 2008

Philadelphia, Pa. - The 2008 Atlantic 10 All-Conference baseball awards were annouced today, as three Fordham players were named among the Atlantic 10's best. Leading the way, senior starting pitcher Tom Davis (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) was named the 2008 Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Year, as well as First Team All-Atlantic 10. Senior shortstop Rich Goulian (Kinnelon, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) joined Davis on the Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team, while senior second baseman Eric Reese (Sparta, N.J./Sparta) was Atlantic 10 All-Conference Honorable Mention and Academic All-Conference.

Following a superb senior season, Davis is the first Fordham pitcher to be named Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Year. He is only the third Atlantic 10 pitcher, joining St. Bonaventure's Kyle Johnson (2001) and George Washington's Greg Conden (2000), to receive Pitcher of the Year honors without having won a single pitcher of the week award.

Davis led the Atlantic 10 with nine wins and a 1.90 earned run average, while registering 62 strikeouts in a career-best 90 innings pitched. A Second Team All-Conference selection a year ago, the righthander allowed only 19 earned runs this year, and yielded just 79 hits and 28 walks, while holding opponents to a .235 batting average. Davis wrapped up his career as Fordham's all-time leader in games started (50) and innings pitched (339.0), while being second in wins (24) and fourth in strikeouts (205).

A two-time Atlantic 10 Player of the Week, Goulian receives his first postseason honor after setting a number of career-highs this season. He led the team with a .351 batting average, 60 runs, 72 hits, 14 doubles, 107 total bases, and 36 stolen bases. He also set career-highs with five home runs, 41 RBI, and 41 walks, while being ranked in the top ten nationally in stolen bases. In Atlantic 10 play, he was even better with a .376 batting average and 23 runs scored. For his career, Goulian finished as the Rams' career leader in games played (206) and at bats (759), while ranking fourth in runs (169) and walks (128), fifth in hits (226), triples (11), and stolen bases (70), and sixth in doubles (42).

A First Team All-Conference selection last year, Reese earns his second Atlantic 10 All-Conference accolade. The lone Ram to start every game this year, he batted .318, leading Fordham in triples (5) and walks (45). He was second on the squad in hits (63) and RBI (46), while ranking in the top ten nationally in stolen bases with 35. He ended his career on Saturday, ranking third at Fordham in career hits (233), fourth in games played (198), fifth in walks (128), sixth in runs (165), and ninth in stolen bases (60) and RBI (123).

Academically, this is Reese's fourth major honor of the year, as he was named First Team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District in a voting among the district's Sports Information Directors. He is currently on the national ballot for Academic All-American® consideration. On April 30th, Reese was honored with the Benedict T. Harter Award at the 2008 Block F Awards Dinner. The Benedict T. Harter award is presented annually to the College of Business Administration senior athlete who has made significant academic and athletic contributions.

Reese, a Business Administration major who is concentrating in finance with a secondary concentration in marketing, also received an Athlete Academic Achievement Award which is presented to senior student-athletes who have been selected for outstanding athletic and academic achievement with a 3.5 GPA or better.
