Fordham Track and Field Competes at Colonial Relays

Williamburg, Va. - The Fordham University men's and women's outdoor track and field squads wrapped up competition at the 43rd Colonial Relays held at Cary Field on the campus of the College of William and Mary on Saturday with the men's 4x800 relay placing second and qualifying for the IC4A Championships.

The Fordham 4x800 team of Tom Finnerty, Matt Lowenthal, Clifton Hilario and Brian Schmidt took second in a time of 7:35.81 to qualify for the IC4A Championships to be held on May 16-18 at Princeton University.

In individual events, Matt DiBuono scored by placing fourth in the hammer with a toss of 183' 4" while also taking 18th in the discus (129' 5").

Other men who placed in the top 20 on day two were Brian Mulkeen, who was tenth in the hammer (151' 6") and Vito Scalia, who placed 17th in the hammer (137' 4").

In other relays, the Fordham men's 4x200 placed eighth (1:29.54) while the 4x1500 squad finished 11th (17:05.30). The 4x100 relay took 12th (44.80) as did the distance medley relay (10:27.74) while the 4x400 placed 14th (3:26.39).

In women's competition, Catherine Groene was the top Fordham finisher on day two, taking seventh in the triple jump with a leap of 36' 11" while Jeana Fletcher finished 15th in the high jump (5' 1").

In women's relays, the distance medley relay placed sixth (12:08.51) while the 4x1500 took ninth (20:24.52). The women's 4x200 (1:50.68) and 4x800 (10:01.00) relay teams each placed 11th while the 4x200 relay placed 14th (53.09) and the 4x400 finished 20th (4:11.50).

The Fordham outdoor track and field squads will next be in action on Saturday, April 12th, as they compete at the Coach "O" Invitational to be held at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y.
