Fordham's Greta Fleischner Named Second Team All-Atlantic 10 for Women's Rowing

April 30, 2008

Philadelphia, Pa. - Fordham University senior Greta Fleischner (Holmdel, N.J./Holmdel) was named Second Team All-Atlantic 10 in women's rowing, in voting among the Conference's head coaches following the 2008 Atlantic 10 Women's Rowing Championship. This is the first ever All-Conference rowing honor for a Fordham student-athlete.

A member of Fordham's Varsity 8, Fleischner helped the boat place sixth at the 2008 Atlantic 10 Championship. The shell also won both the 2007 Fall Metropolitan Championship and the 2008 Spring Metropolitan Championship, held last weekend at Orchard Beach, N.Y., while also placing fifth at the 2008 Knecht Cup.

Fleischner was also a member of the Lightweight 4 which won a silver medal at the 2008 Atlantic 10 Championship.

In four years, Fleischner has gone from a walk-on who never rowed a stroke in her life to serving as a co-captain of the Fordham Woman's rowing team this year. She became the best lightweight rower in Fordham history and one of the all-time best heavyweight rowers. Fleischner is ranked among the elite lightweight rowers in the country and in the running for the Woman's Under 23 National Team.

Academically, Fleischner has been named to the Atlantic 10 Commissioners Honor Roll and has been invited to join the National Honor Society for Philosophy majors (Phi Sigma Tau).

The Fordham crew will next be in action this weekend as they travel to the Occoquan Reservoir in Northern Virginia for the Mid-Atlantic Championships on Sunday, May 4th, in their final tune-up before the Dad Vail Regatta.
