Fordham University junior Caroline Gibbons (College Point, N.Y./Dominican Academy) was named Academic All-Atlantic 10 for Women's Rowing, in voting among the Conference's Sports Information Directors it was announced today. This is the first year in which Gibbons academic honors from the conference.
As the coxswain for Fordham's premier boat, the Varsity 8, she led the shell to a sixth place finish at the 2008 Atlantic 10 Championship on April 19th. The Varsity 8 also won the 2007 Fall Metropolitan Championship and the 2008 Metropolitan Spring Championship, held last weekend at Orchard Beach, N.Y. The Varsity 8 also placed fifth at the 2008 Knecht Cup.
Gibbons, an American Studies major, is the top student-athlete in Fordham College and was named a 2007 CRCA National Scholar-Athlete last year and has been named to the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll the past three years.
The Fordham crew will next be in action this weekend as they travel to the Occoquan Reservoir in Northern Virginia for the Mid-Atlantic Championships on Sunday, May 4th, in their final tune-up before the Dad Vail Regatta.
