Fordham University senior shortstop Rich Goulian (Kinnelon, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) was named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week for the week ending April 27th it was announced today. It is the first weekly award in Goulian's Fordham career.
On the week, the Rams were a perfect 5-0, including a three-game sweep of Atlantic 10 foe, Temple University, over the weekend.
Goulian was the catalyst behind the perfect week for Fordham, helping the Rams climb back into A-10 playoff contention. He hit .542 (13-24) in the five games with a .593 on-base percentage and .708 slugging percentage. Goulian recorded four multi-hit games on the week and in the Iona game on Tuesday, April 22nd, he became the tenth Ram to reach the 200 career hits plateau. He currently has 212 career hits, placing him seventh on the all-time hits list at Fordham.
In the conference games at Temple, Goulian connected on a go-ahead two-run single in the eighth inning to vault Fordham past the Owls, 8-5, on Sunday, completing the sweep. He hit .467 (7-15) in the series.
Goulian also stole four bases this weekend, bringing his season total to 33, placing him among the NCAA Division I leaders and is the most by a Ram since Bobby Kingbury stole 36 in 2001.
On the year, Goulian is hitting a team-high .354 (58-164) with 12 doubles, two triples, two home runs and 27 RBI. He leads the team and the Atlantic 10 with his 33 stolen bases while also leading the conference in runs scored (55) and assists (139). He also ranks fourth in on base percentage (.483), eighth in hits (58) and 15th in the Atlantic 10 in hitting.
The Rams will next be in action on Tuesday night, April 29th, as they host Hofstra University at Houlihan Park beginning at 7:00 p.m.
