Bronx, N.Y. -
The 2008 Fordham University football spring game will take on a different look this year as it won't be a Maroon versus White affair. Instead, the offense will battle the defense for spring bragging rights and for something much more important. The losers will have to serve lunch to the winners in the annual spring barbeque that follows the game where the student-athletes will also receive their 2007 Patriot League Championship rings.
The game will kickoff at 11:00 a.m. on Murphy Field.
Because of the different look to the game this year, there will also be a different scoring system which will allow the defense to accumulate points. For the offense, each touchdown or play that gains 25 yards or more will be worth three points while a first down or a defensive pass interference penalty will net the offense one point. As for the defense, they will score three points for an interception and will tally one point for forcing the offense to punt, recording a play that results in negative yards, a pass break up and any offense pass interference call.
With nine offensive starters and eight defensive starters back from last year, the 2008 spring practice session hasn't been one where the coaching are looking to fill holes. It's been one where they're looking to improve in each practice as they get ready to defend their 2007 Patriot League title.
Fordham will open the 2008 season on Saturday, September 6th when they host the University of Rhode Island on Jack Coffey Field at 6:00 p.m.
