The Fordham golf team opened play at the Mt St. Mary's Spring Invitational on Friday, held at the Quail Valley Golf Club in Littlestown, Pa. After 36 holes on day one, Fordham is currently 17th out of 18 teams.
Longwood University leads the field after round two with a score of 575 (288-287), followed by Army in second at 591 (297-294). Fordham posted a two-round total of 626 (321-305) on day one.
Individually, Mount St. Mary's golfer Ray Hyre leads the tournament at five-under-par (-5) after a two-round total of 139 (68-71) on day one. Siena's Dan Abbondandolo is just one shot back of Hyre at 140, after back-to-back rounds of 70.
For Fordham, Michael Finocchi was the top performer on day one, as he is tied for 34th overall after shooting a 79 in round one and a season-best score of 72 in round two for a total of 151. Nico Mizono is tied for 46th overall with a score of 154 after two straight rounds of 77. Charles Sterken is currently tied for 65th with a score of 158 (80-78), followed by Trevor Seufer (T79th - 85-78-163) and Joseph Neydon (87th - 85-81-166).
Fordham's Jared Carusillo (T83rd - 85-79-164) and Zach Murray (90th - 85-83-168) are also competing in the tournament, but are not a part of the team scoring.
Competition at the Mt. St. Mary's Spring Invitational will conclude on Saturday.
