Bronx, N.Y. -
In the final scrimmage before the annual spring game next Saturday, the Fordham defense showed that it was ready for action, holding the offense to three scores while picking off three passes, all three by Kelvin Colbert.
The offense's first score came on a 72-yard touchdown run from 2007 Patriot League Rookie of the Year, Xavier Martin. Martin turned in a strong performance in the game, breaking three other runs for a gain of more than ten yards.
The other two scores came on first and goal situations. The first was a one-yard plunge from Darryl Robinson on third down while the second was a Sean Mara four-yard pass scoring toss to Frank Curry.
Colbert led the defense, recording three interceptions on the day, the last on the final play of the scrimmage at the ten yard line during the two-minute drill. Prior to the interception, quarterback John Skelton led the offense downfield, completing a pass to Nnamdi Onyeabar for a big gain before scampering out of the pocket for another first down.
Also contributing to the Fordham defense was lineman Ryan Mehra, who notched a couple of sacks, along with linebackers Nicholas Magiera and David Mendez.
The Rams will wrap up spring practice with the annual spring game next Saturday, April 26th, at 11:00 a.m. on Murphy Field.
