The Fordham University women's tennis squad opened play at the 2008 Atlantic 10 Championship with a 4-0 loss to Saint Louis on Friday morning at the Club for Life. The ninth-seeded Rams will now play on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. against an opponent to be determined.
Saint Louis, the eight seed, opened the match by taking the doubles point, winning both completed doubles matches. Fordham's Martina Featherston and Catherine Kellner fell at second doubles to Hailee Elmore and Joe Becker, 8-2, and Brittany Russell and Elizabeth Stall lost to Tara Grant and Rachel McCullagh at third doubles, 8-0. Dominique Liguori and Ellenoira Featherston were ahead of Saint Louis' Amanda Hellberg and Casey Miller, 4-3, when the match was halted.
The Billikens took the match winning all three of the completed singles matches. Becker defeated Martina Featherston at fourth singles to Federgreen (7-6, 6-1), Stall fell to Grant at fifth singles (7-5, 6-1) and Russell was denied at sixth singles by McCullagh (6-0, 6-0).
