Trey Blue Signs Men's Basketball Letter of Intent with Fordham University

April 17, 2008

Bronx, N.Y. - Fordham University men's basketball head coach Dereck Whittenburg announced the signing of Trey Blue (South Holland, Ill./Brewster Prep) to a National Letter of Intent for the 2008-09 season. Blue joins Jio Fontan (Patterson, N.J./St. Anthony's), Alberto Estwick (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Anthony's), Lamar Thomas (Littleton, Colo./Solebury Prep) and Khiry Gordon (Philadelphia, Pa./Solebury Prep) who signed with Fordham during the early signing period in November.

"Trey is a wonderful addition to our program," said Whittenburg. "He will definitely help fill the scoring void left by our five graduating seniors. He is a really good defender and an excellent shooter. We're very happy to have him joining us at Fordham."

Blue, a 6-3, 190-pound guard, prepped at Brewster Academy last winter, leading the Bobcats to the 2008 New England Prep School Athletic Conference (NEPSAC) Class A championship. He averaged 13.5 ppg and 4.0 rpg at Brewster went 31-4 on the season, 16-0 in the conference, setting a school record for most wins in a season. He scored a team-high 20 points, including four three-pointers, in Brewster's 69-65 overtime win over Winchendon Prep in the NEPSAC Championship game. Blue also netted 25 points in Brewster's 95-74 semifinal win over South Kent, connecting on five three-pointers.

Following the NEPSAC Championship game, Blue got his first taste of Fordham's historic Rose Hill Gym as he led the Bobcats into the 2008 National Prep School Championship Tournament. Brewster advanced to the semifinals of the tournament where the Bobcats fell to top-seeded Hargrave Military Academy, 102-93.

Blue is a 2007 graduate of Thornwood High School in South Holland, Illinois, where he averaged 12.3 ppg, 5.0 rpg and 4.0 apg as a senior and was a 2007 McDonald's All-American nominee for the state of Illinois. He earned IBCA Third Team All-State honors as well as Chicago Sun Times All-Area accolades. Blue was selected to play in the Windy City All-Star Game and the McLegends All-Star game as well as the 33rd Annual City vs. Suburban All-Star game.

At Thornwood, Blue was also a two-time SICA East All-Conference pick, a two-time State Farm Holiday Classic All-Tournament selection and a two-time Lincoln-Way East Tournament Most Valuable Player choice.

As a junior in 2005-06, Blue averaged a team-best 17.1 ppg, hitting 74 of his 169 three-point attempts, along with 6.1 rpg and 4.1 apg in leading the team to a 24-6 record and a third place finish at the 2006 Illinois AA state championship tournament. He received IBCA All-State honors as a junior.

Blue was a 4.0 student in the classroom at Thornwood.

Blue is one of six players from the 2007-08 Brewster squad to sign with an NCAA Division I team joining Anthony Crater (Ohio State), Max Huc (Princeton), Charles Abouo (BYU), Mark Lyons (Xavier) and Emmanuel Negedu (Arizona).
