Dominique Liguori defeated Army's Jessica Shurtz at first singles while teammate Catherine Kellner was victorious at second singles over Jessica Ahn but it wasn't enough as Fordham University fell to Army, 5-2, in women's tennis action at Lichtenberg Tennis Center.
With the loss, the Rams fall 5-9 to while Army improves to 24-7.
Fordham opened the match by dropping the doubles point to Army as the Black Knights took two of the three doubles matches. Liguori and Ellenoira Featherston teamed up to take first doubles for Fordham over Ahn and Paige Ford, 8-4, but Martina Featherston and Kellner fell at second doubles to Jurrell Mendoza and Robie Verano, 8-6. Army then took the doubles point as Audrey Hansen and Annie Hang upended Elizabeth Stall and Brittany Russell at third doubles by an 8-2 score.
Liguori and Kellner each won their singles matches in straight sets with Liguori taking Shurtz by scores of 6-1 and 6-1 and Kellner defeating Ahn by scores of 6-1 and 6-0.
But the Rams dropped the other four singles matches with Ellenoira Featherston falling to Michael Tollerton at third singles (6-2, 6-0), Martina Featherston losing fourth singles to Ford (6-0, 6-1), Stall falling at fifth singles to Mendoza (6-1, 6-1) and Russell being upended by Hansen at sixth singles (6-0, 6-0).
The Rams will next be in action on Friday, April 18th, as they travel to Monroeville, Penn., to participate in the 2008 Atlantic 10 Championships to be held at The Club for Life.
