Fordham's Donnie Callara, Ryan Coombs and Caitlin Napoli Named Academic All-Atlantic 10 for Men's Swimming

Philadelphia, Pa. - Fordham University men's swimming and diving student-athletes Donato Callara (Scarsdale, N.Y./Scarsdale), Ryan Coombs (Newburgh, N.Y./Newburgh Free Academy) and Caitlin Napoli (Hauppauge, N.Y./St. Anthony's) were named Academic All-Atlantic 10 for swimming and diving, in voting among the Conference's Sports Information Directors it was announced today. This is the second straight year in which Callara has earned academic honors from the conference and the first for Coombs.

Callara, a Political Science major, earned Second Team All-Atlantic 10 honors by placing second on the three meter board at the 2008 Atlantic 10 Championship, setting a school record with score of 562.55, breaking the record of 554.15 for 11 dives set by Paul Delo in 1997. He also set Fordham's three meter diving record at the championships, placing third with a score of 592.40, breaking the former record for 11 dives of 535.35 set by Delo in 1997.

On the year, Callara, who was also named Academic All-Atlantic 10 in 2007, turned in Fordham's top scores on the one (308.10) and three (345.45) meter boards. His tally of 345.45 on the three meter board against St. Francis on February 6th broke his own school record of 343.95 set in 2006.

Callara, who scored on both the one and three meter boards all for years at the Atlantic 10 Championship, graduates with all the Fordham men's diving records.

Coombs, a Chemistry major, scored in three individual events at the 2008 Atlantic 10 Championship, placing fourth in both the 200 (1:41.10) and 1650 (16:04.56) free and ninth in the 500 free (4:37.07). He was also a member of the school-record setting 800 free relay at A-10s, which finished sixth in a record time of 6:52.42, breaking the former record of 6:52.30 set in 2000. Coombs was also a member of the 400 free relay and 400 medley relay at the Atlantic 10 Championships.

On the year, Coombs, the 2007 Atlantic 10 Outstanding Rookie of the Meet, recorded Fordham's fastest 50 (21.70), 200 (1:41.10), 500 (4:37.07), 1000 (9:50.66) and 1650 (16:04.56) free times in 2007-08 as well as the fastest 200 butterfly time (1:56.79). He has been selected to the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll for each of his three semesters at Fordham.

Napoli, a Business Administration major, scored in three events at the 2008 Atlantic 10 Championship, placing third in the 500 free (4:59.63), fourth in the 200 free (1:52.38) and fifth in the 200 fly (2:05.91). She was also a member of the 200 medley relay which took third at the championships while setting a school record with a 1:45.95 clocking, shattering the former record of 1:47.06 set in 2003. Napoli was also a member of the 400 medley relay at the A-10 Championships which took third while setting another school record with a time of 3:51.86, surpassing the former record of 3:55.83 set in 2003.

On the year, Napoli recorded Fordham's fastest 200 (1:52.38) and 500 (4:59.63) free times as well as the best 200 fly time (2:05.39).

Last winter, Napoli earned First Team All-Atlantic 10 honors by winning the 200 free at the 2007 championships and Second Team All-Conference honors by finishing second in both the 100 back and 200 fly.
