Philadelphia, Pa. -
Fordham University senior catcher Allison Storc (Boynton Beach, Fla./Santaluces) and freshman pitcher Beckah Wiggins (Conklin, N.Y./ Susquehanna Valley) were honored by the Atlantic 10 today with Storc being named Player of the Week and Wiggins earning Co-Rookie of the Week accolades for the week ending March 30th. This is the first Player of the Week award this year for Storc while Wiggins captures her second straight, and third overall, Rookie of the Week honor this spring.
On the week, the Rams went a perfect 4-0, sweeping a doubleheader from Iona on Friday, 2-1 and 9-1, and then taking an Atlantic 10 doubleheader from Saint Louis on Sunday by scores of 9-1 and 9-4.
Storc, a First Team All-Atlantic 10 pick last spring, hit .400 (6-15) on the week with two doubles, two home runs and ten RBI. She connected on her first career grand slam in the second-game win over Iona, and added a two-run blast in the second-game win over Saint Louis that ignited an eight-run inning as the Rams rallied from a 4-1 deficit in the bottom of the sixth.
On the year, Storc is hitting .298 (25-84) with six doubles, four home runs and 20 RBI, ranking second on the squad in home runs and RBI.
Over her career, Storc has collected 161 hits, 21 home runs and 95 RBI. She is currently third on the Fordham all-time home run list, fourth on the career RBI list and fifth on the career hits roll.
Wiggins, a freshman right-hander, picked up three of the four Fordham wins on the week, including both wins in the Saint Louis sweep. She started the week coming on in relief in the first game of the Iona doubleheader, throwing one inning of one-hit ball, striking out two, to pick up the win. She then started the first game of the Saint Louis doubleheader, surrendering just one hit over the first five innings while fanning three. She closed out the Saint Louis sweep with two and one-third innings of relief pitching, allowing two hits and two runs, one earned, while striking out three.
On the week, Wiggins held opponents to a .143 batting average in her three appearances with a 1.08 ERA.
