Bronx, N.Y. - Fordham's Ken Fukumoto won at sixth singles over A.J. Nelson to pick up Fordham's lone point of the match as Fordham fell to Rhode Island, 6-1, in men's tennis action on the Hawthorn/Rooney Court on Saturday. With the loss, the Rams fall to 1-8 on the year while Rhode Island improves to 13-4.

Fordham opened the match by dropping the doubles point to Rhode Island, dropping all three doubles matches. Dallas Harting and Brandon Abbatiello lost at first doubles to Jared Dorfman and Jeff Cote, 8-4, while Pat Tool and Sotiris Georgiou dropped second doubles to Adam Gart and James McGuire, 8-2, and Ken Fukumoto and Nick Kelly were upended by Dixon Simmons and Nicholai Hill at third doubles, 8-6.

Fukumoto dropped the first set to Nelson, 6-2, before forcing a third set with a 6-1 win in the second set. Fukumoto then took the match with a 6-3 win in the third set.

Rhode Island won the match by taking the other five singles matches with Dorfman taking first singles from Harting in straight sets (7-5, 6-3) while Tool fell to Cote in second singles (6-0, 6-1) and Abbatiello lost to Henrik Alstrom at third singles (6-2, 6-0). Georgiou forced Gart to a tie-breaker at fourth singles, winning the first set, 6-4, before dropping the second 6-3. Gart then won the tie-breaker 10-8 to take the match. At fifth singles, Peter Slucky fell to Andrew Costin, 6-2, 6-0.

The Rams will next be in action on Sunday, March 30th as they travel to Philadelphia to face Temple University at 11:00 a.m.
