Fordham junior Matt DiBuono (New Rochelle, N.Y./Iona Prep) and freshman Brian Schmidt (Malverne, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) earned Atlantic 10 Men's Outdoor Track & Field Performer and Rookie of the Week, respectively, for the week ending March 23rd. This is DiBuono's third Performer of the Week award of the year, while it is Schmidt's third Rookie of the Week award of the season.
DiBuono opened the 2008 outdoor season by winning the hammer throw at the Towson Invitational with an NCAA Regional qualifying throw of 195' 6". This throw also broke the Fordham school mark of 190' 2", that DiBuono set last season. He was also Fordham's top finisher in the shot put (5th - 46' 3 ½") and discus throw (4th - 129' 11").
Schmidt finished second in his lone individual event at the Towson Invitational. He clocked in at 1:59.12 in the 800 meter run.
The Fordham Track and Field team will next be in action on Saturday, March 29th, as they compete at the Southern Connecticut Relays, beginning at 9:00 AM.
