Dallas Harting defeated Peter Czajka at second singles but that would be the only point for the Rams as Fordham fell to Saint Peter's, 6-1, in its first spring match of 2008. With the loss, the Rams fall to 1-6 on the year.
The Rams opened the match by dropping the doubles point to the Peacocks, losing all three doubles matches. Austin Shoup and Pat Tool fell at first doubles to Tony Wilkey and Chris Frakes, 8-3, while Harting and Kevin Maloney dropped second doubles to Czajka and Jake Baranowski, 8-3, and Ken Fukumoto and Nick Kelly were upended by J.J. Gramatica and Kevin Naranjo, 8-5, at third doubles.
Harting had to go to three sets to win at second singles, dropping the first set, 7-5, before coming back to the second 7-5 and the tie-breaker, 10-8.
Saint Peter's won the match by taking the other five singles matches with Serge Igel taking first singles from Shoop in straight sets (6-1, 6-1) while Tool took Gramatica to three sets at third singles, winning the first set, 6-3, before falling 6-3 and 6-4 in the last two. At fourth singles, Wilkey upended Brandon Abbatiello in straight sets (6-1, 6-3) while Sotiris Georgiou also lost in straight sets to Frakes at fifth singles (6-2, 6-3). At sixth singles, Peter Slucky fell to Baranowski, 6-4, 0-6, 10-6.
The Rams will next be in action on Thursday, March 13th as they host Fairfield University on the Hawthorn/Rooney Courts at 3:30 p.m.
