Fordham Women's Basketball To Think Pink on Saturday Against Dayton

Feb. 8, 2008

Bronx, N.Y. - The Fordham women's basketball team will be one of over 900 schools to "Think Pink" this week in coordination with the 2008 Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) "Think Pink" initiative, which officially begins on Friday, February 8th and runs through Sunday, February 17th.

For their home game against Dayton on Saturday, February 9th, the Fordham Rams will wear white shoelaces with pink ribbons, while coaches and administrators will wear pink ribbon pins to commemorate the initiative. Half of all admissions taken at the game will be donated to the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund. Game time is set for 1:00 PM.

"The Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund is very special to me on a personal level. I have known Kay Yow for 25 years since I was coaching at East Carolina University and our teams played each other. Kay is a great person and we are proud to support this special fund," said Fordham head coach Cathy Andruzzi.

The "Think Pink" initiative is a global, unified effort for the WBCA's nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond.

Schools have chosen to participate in a variety of different ways, and the extent of involvement is up to the individual institution, but the importance comes in the awareness that the event creates. The Association's original goal for this year's "Think Pink" was 750 participants, which was surpassed in late January.

Following the 2008 "Think Pink" week, the WBCA will collect photos, press releases, t-shirts, and radio/video footage, and will tally total number of fans reached and donations collected during the initiative.
