Philadelphia, Pa. - Fordham University freshman Brian Schmidt (Malvern, N.Y./Kellenberg) was named the Atlantic 10 Men's Indoor Track & Field Rookie of the Week it was announced today. It is the first weekly award for Schmidt.

On the week, Schmidt led the Rams to an eighth place finish at the 2008 Metropolitan Indoor Championships held at The Armory in Manhattan. He placed third in the 500-meter run with a season-best time of 1:04.99, the second fastest 500m time in the Atlantic 10 this winter and a time which qualifies him for the IC4A Championships to be held on March 1st and 2nd in Boston.

Schmidt was also a member of the 4x400-meter relay team which placed third in a season-best time of 3:19.14, which is also an IC4A qualifying time.

On the year, Schmidt has turned in Fordham's fastest 500-meter time (1:04.49) as well as the second fastest 400-meter time (50.19).

The Fordham indoor track and field squad will next be in action on Friday, February 9th, as they compete at the in Boston.
