Fordham University freshman Christina Cosentino (Staten Island, N.Y./Notre Dame Academy) was named the Atlantic 10 Women's Swimming and Diving Rookie of the Week it was announced today. It is the first weekly award for Cosentino.
On the week, Cosentino led the Rams to a 186-112 win at the University of Massachusetts on Saturday by winning two events. She took first in both the 100 and 200 backstroke in times of 58.37 and 2:06.97, respectively. Cosentino was also a member of the winning 200-yard medley relay team, which covered the course in a time of 1:49.14.
On the year, Cosentino has turned in Fordham's fastest 50 (27.92), 100 (57.58) and 200 backstroke (2:06.13) times as well as being a member of the 200 (1:48.20 and 400 (3:54.12) medley relays with the fastest times of 2007-08. The 400 medley relay time is a school record.
The Fordham women's swimming and diving squad will next be in action on Wednesday, February 6th, as they host St. Francis College at 6:00 p.m. in the Messmore Aquatics Center.
