Bronx, N.Y. -
The Fordham women's basketball team has been on the go and in the news over the past week. This past Saturday, the team was featured in the New York Times, while Thursday saw a piece on Megan Mahoney in the Staten Island Advance. On top of these articles, the team visited the Basketball Hall of Fame on their trip to play UMass.
On their visit to the Hall of Fame on Tuesday, the team was treated to lunch at the Red Rose Pizzeria & Restaurant, which was followed by a tour of the Basketball Hall of Fame. Maria D'Angelantonio, Jack Maloney, and the CYO Basketball League of Western Massachusetts were the team's hosts for the day and the team was very gracious for their hospitality all day.
"We appreciate the gracious hospitality of the CYO of Springfield to invite our women's basketball team to the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. It was a great experience for our student-athletes, one that they will remember for the rest of their lives," said head coach Cathy Andruzzi.
For some players, it was their first visit, while others saw a second opportunity to see basketball legends. Here are some of their takes on the day:
Kyara Weekes - "The Basketball Hall of Fame was a great experience. It allows players of the game, like myself and my teammates to see where basketball started and where it's at now. There was so much to see and learn. It was a great experience."
Kassie Humphries - "The Hall of Fame was awesome! All of the history was overwhelming, but really cool. My favorite part was seeing the displays for Indiana."
Gina Giambanco - "This was my second time attending the Hall of Fame, but I enjoyed this visit more. I took the extra time to read about certain coaches and players that I admire. I liked seeing how basketball has evolved over the years, as well as the greatest players of all-time."
Carissa Morrill - "This was my first trip to the Hall of Fame, and I really enjoyed it. It was inspiring to see and learn about the history of the game, and it encourages me to continue working hard in the future."
Kristina Bell - "This was my second time attending the Hall of Fame, and I still found the experience extremely valuable. I enjoyed seeing how the game and players have evolved over the years, and it makes me wonder what people will think when they look back on our generation many years from now."
Megan Mahoney - "I found the Hall of Fame very exciting. From seeing how the game was developed to all the coaches that I watch on television. The experience was great, and I'd love to do it again."
On top of the tour, the team was featured on a local Springfield Channel 15 television broadcast done at the Hall of Fame. The show started with an interview with head coach Cathy Andruzzi and Megan Mahoney, and finished with short one-on-one pieces with each of the Rams and the coaching staff.
