Fordham University freshman infielder/outfielder Jocelyn Dearborn (New Milford, Pa./Blue Ridge) earned the first Atlantic 10 Softball Rookie of the Week award for the new year it was announced today.
Dearborn had an outstanding start to her Fordham career at the 2008 Bulldog Round Robin, held at Mississipi State University this past weekend. She hit .476 (10-for-21) with three runs scored, a triple, a home run, and nine RBI in the five-game tournament, recording at least one hit in each game.
Dearborn opened the tournament going 2-for-5 with a pair of RBI against Southern Illinois, and followed with three hits and two RBI in a win over Wright State. Against #21/22 Mississippi State, she was 3-for-4 with a triple, four RBI, and the game-tying two-run home run in the seventh to force extra innings. She finished the tournament with her ninth RBI of the weekend in another win over Wright State.
The Fordham softball team (2-3) will next be in action on February 22-24, as they play at the Palm Springs Classic in Palm Springs, California. The Rams' first opponents will be #13 Stanford and #25 Oregon State on Friday night, followed by match-ups with Pacific and Team USA on Saturday. The Rams will then wrap up play on Sunday against #18 Ohio State.
