Melissa Salerno Earns Atlantic 10 All-Conference Honors at A-10 Championships

Kingston, R.I. - Fordham University's Melissa Salerno earned Second Team All-Atlantic 10 honors in the 1000m as the women's indoor track & field team took ninth place at the 2008 Atlantic 10 Indoor Track & Field Championships Saturday afternoon at the University of Rhode Island's Mackal Field House.

Salerno, who qualified earlier this winter for the ECAC Championship in the 1000m, placed second in the event in a time of 2:56.38.

In the team competition, Charlotte won its third-consecutive indoor championship with a final point total of 180, followed by Dayton in second place with 91 points and Rhode Island in third with 85 points. Richmond was fourth with 77 points followed by La Salle (73), Temple (65.5), Massachusetts (55), Saint Joseph's (29), Fordham (27.5), Xavier (22) Duquesne (20) and Saint Louis (16).

Also scoring for the Fordham women were Jacqueline Prevete, Brigid Moriarty, Kerri Gallagher, Catherine Groene and Jeana Fletcher. Prevete and Moriarty finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 5000m in a time of 17:56.86 and 17:59.39, respectively. Prevete's time was a season best for the Rams. Gallagher took fifth in the 800m in a time of 2:18.23 while Groene was sixth in the triple jump with a jump of 36' 5.75" and Fletcher tied for seventh in the high jump with a best leap of 5' 3".

In women's relays, the 4x800 team of Kathleen Reilly, Salerno, Dana Mitchell and Gallagher placed sixth in a time of 9:28.71 while the 4x400 squad of Ondrea Gallo, Jessica Berry, Mitchell and Kerry Kwalwasser finished eighth in a time of 4:10.33.
