Fordham's Ryan Coombs and Caitlin Napoli Named Atlantic 10 Performers of the Week

Philadelphia, Pa. - Fordham University sophomore swimmers Ryan Coombs (Newburgh, N.Y./Newburgh Free Academy) and Caitlin Napoli (Hauppauge, N.Y./St. Anthony's) were named Atlantic 10 Men's and Women's Swimming Performer of the Week it was announced today. It is the third A-10 Performer of the Week award for Coombs, who was named 2007 Atlantic 10 Most Outstanding Rookie last winter, this year and the fourth for Napoli.

On the week, Fordham swept St. Francis College with the women winning, 152-85, and the men, 175-77.

In the St. Francis meet, Napoli won two events, taking first in the 100 backstroke in a time of 1:00.04 and the 200 backstroke, in a time of 2:12.26.

On the year, Napoli has turned in the fastest 200 free (1:51.85) and 500 free times (5:05.08) as well as the top 100 (58.61) and 200 butterfly times (2:05.39).

Coombs was victorious in two events for the Fordham men, taking the 100 and 200 butterfly in 52.17 and 1:56.79, respectively, against St. Francis. Both times are season bests for Fordham. He was also a member of the winning 200 medley relay team (1:37.57).

Besides recording the fastest 100 and 200 fly times on the year, Coombs has the fastest 200 IM time (1:58.97).

The Fordham men's and women's swimming and diving squads will next be in action as they compete at the 208 Atlantic 10 Championship to be held from February 20th through 23rd in Buffalo.
