Fordham junior Randall Hurst (West Bloomfield, Mich./West Bloomfield) and freshman Becky Peters (Plainsboro, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro South) received their first career Atlantic 10 weekly honor today, as Hurst was named Atlantic 10 Women's Basketball Co-Player of the Week, while Peters earned Atlantic 10 Co-Rookie of the Week. It is the first time Fordham has ever had a both weekly honors since joining the Atlantic 10 in the 1995-96 season.
Hurst is the first Atlantic 10 Player of the Week for Fordham since Lisa Carrol earned the honor back in December of 2006.
Hurst averaged 15.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in a 2-0 week for the Rams. She scored the go-ahead basket with 11 seconds left in the win over Central Connecticut State last Monday. In total, she finished with a game-high 19 points against the Blue Devils to go with eight boards, a season-high four assists, and three steals. She followed that performance by just missing her second double-double of the season on Sunday with 12 points and nine rebounds in a win over Norfolk State.
Hurst currently leads the Rams in scoring (12.1 ppg) and rebounding (5.3) this season.
Peters also had an outstanding week for the Rams, averaging 15.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 3.5 steals. On Sunday, she recorded her first career double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds in a win over Norfolk State. She also added a season-high six steals in that game, the most by a Ram this season. Last Monday, she netted 12 points and three rebounds in a win over Central Connecticut State.
Peters, currently the Rams' second leading scorer (9.1 ppg), has come on strong since joining the Rams' starting line-up on December 6th, averaging 15.2 points and 5.8 rebounds in six games.
Hurst and Peters lead the rest of Fordham Rams (6-6) into the championship game of the Fordham Holiday Tournament later today against Bryant University at approximately 3:00 PM.
