Bronx, N.Y. - Fordham University freshman guard Jio Fontan (Paterson, N.J./St. Anthony's) was named the Atlantic 10 Co-Rookie of the Week for the week ending December 28th it was announced today. He shares the award with Duquesne's Eric Evans. This is the second weekly award for Fontan, who also won the award on December 14th, and he is the second Ram to earn the honor this year, joining freshman guard Trey Blue who received the accolade on November 16th.

In one game on the week, a 60-56 win over New Hampshire on December 23rd, Fontan scored 18 points, including the game-winning basket with 43 seconds remaining. He shot 6-for-10 from the field and 6-for-7 from the line while adding three assists and two rebounds.

On the year, Fontan leads the Rams in scoring, averaging 13.0 ppg while also dishing out a team-best 44 assists, fifth best in the Atlantic 10.

The Rams (2-7) will return to action on Sunday night, December 28th as they open play at the FIU Holiday Tournament in Miami by facing the Tennessee Martin Skyhawks at 7:00 p.m. at the U.S. Century Bank Arena. The game can be heard live on WFUV (90.7 FM) and on the internet at www.wfuv.org.
