Fordham University indoor track and field student-athletes swept the weekly Atlantic 10 awards as sophomore Jon Arnold (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) was named Atlantic 10 Men's Indoor Track & Field Performer and Rookie of the Week, senior Jeana Fletcher (Newark, Del./Charter School of Wilmington) was named Women's Performer of the Week and freshman Elisabeth Warren (Silver Spring, Md./Connelly School of the Holy Child) was named Women's Rookie of the Week, for the week ending December 14th, it was announced today. This is the second straight week a Fordham track and field student-athlete has won an Atlantic 10 award as Matt DiBuono was named Performer of the Week last week.
The Rams were in action on Friday as Fordham hosted the Christmas Classic in the Vincent T. Lombardi Memorial Center Fieldhouse.
Arnold, who also competes with the football Rams, enjoyed a highly successful first collegiate meet, winning both the long jump and the 60m. His winning leap of 23' 0.75" in the long jump was just a quarter of an inch shy of the Fordham school record of 23' 1" set by Ralph St. Pierre in 1939, the oldest school record on the book for the Rams. Arnold won the 60m in a time of 7.0.
Fletcher, who won her second career Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week award, showed her versatility by winning the shot put, taking second in the high jump and fourth in the 60m hurdles. She won the shot put at the Fordham Christmas Classic with a season-best toss of 39' 4". Fletcher was also the top Fordham finisher in the high jump (5' 1" - second overall) and 60m hurdles (9.1 seconds - fourth overall), with season best marks in both events.
Warren, in just her second collegiate meet, won the 60m dash at the Fordham Christmas Classic in a time of 7.7 seconds, tying her season best. She also was the top Fordham finisher in the long jump (15' 6.25" - third overall) and the 200m (26.6 - fourth overall), registering a season-best time in the 200m.
The Fordham Track and Field team is off for first semester finals and the holiday break and will resume action on Friday night, January 16th, as they compete at the NYU Gotham Cup at the 168th St. Armory.
