Nov. 20, 2008

Philadelphia, Pa. - The Atlantic 10 Conference announced the 2008 Volleyball All-Conference teams and award winners this afternoon, with the Rams being well represented among the Atlantic 10's best. The Rams had three players receive awards, as sophomores Christi Griffiths (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) and Katie Wells (Costa Mesa, Calif./Newport Harbor) were named Second Team All-Atlantic 10, while Megan Arend (Elk Grove, Calif./St. Francis) earned All-Rookie team honors.

Griffiths received Second Team All-Atlantic 10 honors for the second straight season. She led the Rams with 345 kills and 101 total blocks this season, and ranked eighth in the Atlantic 10 in points scored. She also hit .287 for the season, but improved her performance in conference play, hitting .327 with 155 kills and 44 total blocks. In just two full seasons at Fordham, Griffiths already has 795 career kills and 235 total blocks, which rank among the best ever at Rose Hill.

Wells received her first career Atlantic 10 honor after a superb sophomore campaign. She ranks fourth in the Atlantic 10 with an overall hitting percentage of .341, which at this time rates as the fourth-best single season mark at Fordham. She also recorded 279 kills to go with 77 total blocks. In conference play, her numbers were almost identical to Griffiths, hitting .326 with 155 kills and 37 total blocks.

Arend served as the starting libero throughout her freshman season. She recorded a 2.87 digs per set average and 324 digs overall, which were both second on the Rams' squad this season. She also added 29 assists, while having a 2.85 digs per set average in conference play.
