Bronx, N.Y. - On Faculty & Staff Appreciation night, the Fordham Rams host the Manhattan Jaspers in the annual "Battle of the Bronx" at the Rose Hill Gym.
This is the 40th all-time meeting between the two schools with the Jaspers holding a 22-17 edge. Last season, Manhattan defeated Fordham, 65-53, at Draddy Gymnasium.
THE OPPONENT: Manhattan is coming off a 15-15 season in 2007-08. They are currently 1-1 this season, after a win over St. Francis (NY), 63-59, and a loss to Massachusetts, 71-68.
The Jaspers are coached by Myndi Hill, who is in her sixth season at Manhattan with a record of 60-90.
Manhattan is led by Lindsey Loutsenhizer, who through two games is averaging 14 points and six rebounds, while Michelle Pacheco is averaging 12 points and four asissts in her first two games.
LAST TIME OUT: For first impressions, Fordham junior Randall Hurst gave a strong one, scoring a team-high 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting in the women's basketball opener against Princeton on Friday. Unfortunately, that effort was not enough, as Princeton shot close to 60% from the field in the second half to pull out a 69-57 win over the Rams at the Rose Hill Gym.
For Fordham, Randall Hurst scored a team-high 18 points to go with three steals, while Annie Zopf had 14 points and six assists. Megan Mahoney chipped in nine points for the Rams with Kristina Bell having a career-high five assists. Takita Earl also had eight points and a team-high six rebounds.
