Women's Rowing Sweeps at Metropolitan Championships

Bronx, N.Y. - The Fordham women's rowing team completed their fall season with a sweep of the championship events at the Fall Metropolitan Championships on Orchard Beach lagoon on Sunday, November 2, 2008. Fordham easily won the varsity eight race, with a margin of more than 11 seconds over Fairfield, which edged Iona for second place. Sacred Heart was fourth. Fordham also won the B section of the varsity eights, defeating Fairfield by over 10 seconds, with Iona and NYU trailing.

The Rams captured all three sections of the varsity four event, featuring an 11-second win over Fairfield in the A race, a three second win over Sacred Heart in a six shell field in the B race, an another big 11-second win over Hofstra in the C race. Fordham also easily won the A sections of the novice fours and eights, with the eight scoring a crushing 35-second win over Iona. Fordham also had entries in the novice B races.

Fordham nearly doubled Iona's point total to retain the overall team championship, including both men's and women's events, with ten schools competing.
