Fordham freshman goalkeeper Ryan Meara (Yonkers, N.Y./Fordham Prep) was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, it was announced today. This is Meara's second weekly award of the season.
Meara posted back-to-back shutouts this weekend, helping Fordham clinch a spot in this year's Atlantic 10 Championship. He made six saves in a double overtime shutout at Temple on Friday, and then made three saves in a shutout win over Saint Joseph's on Sunday.
Meara now has eight shutouts this season, the most ever by a Fordham freshman, while also tying for the second most in a single season at Rose Hill. He also lowered his goals against average to 0.92.
Meara and the Fordham men's soccer team will next be in action on Thursday, November 13th, as they open play at the Atlantic 10 Championship in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Rams are the fifth seed and will play fourth seeded Saint Louis at 8:30 PM.
